​In this four-week partnered project, we worked with a Chicago-based non-profit organization to develop a potential Youth Drop-in Center (YDC). It will admit houseless youth, providing them with temporary shelter, free medical and mental health resources, and a number of supportive amenities.

The contradictory balance between security (separation and protection) and acceptance (welcome and community) drove the design behind our proposal. How can we create spaces that feel welcoming, yet safe?
